Wimberley Taxpaper Site

Wimberley Taxpaper Site

I'm a first time speaker before the School Board. WISH I did not have to be here, if things were running smoothly here in Wimberley. One thing we can ALL AGREE on is that this year's Football Team ran smoothly. Now, my wife and I did not have any children but support the kids by attending their fund raiser meals, buying their discount book for Senior's NIght, I'm part of that 60 and over group attending football games and I was the one responsible for the flyer that was handed out at the Championship Game in Waco with about two minutes left in the game. NOW, I did not contact the Superintendent or the Principal to see IF this would be ok. I first approached Mary Saunders at the View with the idea and a possible design, she passed it on to a couple guys at the View who did this design work as seen here. Just encase Mary did not get the go ahead from Jack Manier, I got on the phone just asking for $5 donations and within an hour or so I had $95. Fortunately, I ran into Dr. Bullock at the last football practice with the idea. He wrote out a nice check and so I went over to The Copy Center to see Cecil. He said he would donate 50 copies plus another 100 copies to go to the players and the coaches, which he delivered the Monday after the Big Win. We had 250 copies to hand out at the game and they did go fast! Tonight, I would like to bring to your attention the CONDUCT of a few of the PRO BOND SUPPORTERS that has further alienated us NO VOTERS. I really do not remember any of this CONDUCT in the last BOND election. When you hear of a person breaking a lounge chair (uninvited) at the Wimberley Libaray - this disturbs me. When a younger person gets in the face of a retired Chicago Police Officer of 30 years; and, this is why he contacted the Sheriff's Dept. and there was a Deputy present Sat. morning - this disturbs me. When people have to play a chess game (using people, cars and trucks) in trying to have people NOT notice our NO VOTE signs - this disturbs me. When our NO VOTE signs are taken down around the community - this distrubs me. BUT when a younger person goes up to the home of an elderly lady and berates her for having a NO VOTE sign in her yard and she thus becomes fearful - this crosses the line of civil decency. I certainly DO NOT KNOW of anything we did, other than having an opposing position, to deserve this kind of treatment. After all, have you all forgotten that we do still have "FREE SPEECH" in this country. Maybe, the leftist liberals, who have made their way out to our beautiful valley from Austin and other places thinking they can come in here and DEMAND more services so as to INCREASE our present taxes and possible push for additional AD VALOREM taxes to fund the Village of Wimberley, will have another issue on their platter! When the above information becomes known in this conservative community I have no doubts we will have gained plenty of more supporters. THANK YOU.++++

A NEW DAY, A NEW LEADER!!!!

That is TOM HALEY'S motto on his run for Mayor of Wimberley in the May 13 election coming up soon. I think Bob Flocke and Terrie Burseil who are running for City Council Places 2 and 4 respectively echo the same sentiments and would SERVE Wimberley well.

WE DEFINITELY NEED A CHANGE to the more CONSERVATIVE side, and with Councilman Graddy stepping down that just leaves Carroll Czichos working for US. Once again,a Mayor pulled one of those "I GOTTCHA'S" when he appointed Susan Thurber to replace Manis' Place 2, ONLY a 180 degrees different from Matt!! Of course, we all remember when Mayor "Fibber" MCGEE pulled his special 11th hour 59th minute and 59 seconds betrayal of his agreement with US and appointed, non other, than Carolyn Nichols and the rest, my friends, is HISTORY,BUT NOT for the better!!

So, let's look at Tom's Proposed Agenda if elected Mayor.

1. Have ADEQUATE budget for street repair and mainenance.
2. Continue planned PARK improvements on a basis the city CAN AFFORD.
3. Advance sewage disposal project for downtown, AFFORDABLE to citizens.
4. Work for a Medical Health Care facility for Wimberley(like an ER Office, Tom said).
5. Work for Assisted Living facility for Wimberley.
6. SIMPLIFY Rules and Regulations for Businesses and MINIMIZE the TIME and COST to do Business within the city.(ed)We have all heard of the heart breaking stories of business people having problems with the city and the outrageous cost of doing business here. Wait till the word gets out, as I am sure it has or will around Texas unless WE ELECT a more FRIENDLY COUNCIL AND MAYOR.
7. Have an OPEN CITY GOVENMENT that keeps the community informed and continues to URGE CITIZEN PARTICIPATION.
8. Develop a good working relationship between the City and WISD. (ed) Maybe with a NEW Superintendent and some NEW BOARD MEMBERS - personal experience there.
9. Provide a government that MUST LIVE within a STRICTLY CONTROLLED BUDGET.

I feel that Bob and Terrie certainly have the knowledge and background of serving Wimberley as they have already done. Don't let the "quiet" Terrie fool you because I think she is in this race from the "HEART".

I WELCOME YOU TO THIS SITE, and while we might not ALL agree 100% of the time, WE ALL KNOW THERE NEEDS TO BE A CHANGE HERE IN WIMBERLEY; OTHERWISE, WE WILL JUST BE ANOTHER BEDROOM COMMUNITY OF AUSTIN. For my thinking, let the LEFTIST LIBERALS stay up there!!Please share your thoughts on the coming election and if you still have some of those OLD letters around that you sent to the VIEW to be published and were turned down, NOW IS YOUR CHANCE!!

CANDIDATE ETHICS!!

Dave Estey, Susan Thurber and Carolyn Nichols, current candidates for the city council and for mayor, all work for the Wimberley Land Co. Should ALL three be elected, that would give the Wimberley Land Co. the INSIDE TRACK on real estate deals, knowledge of planned developments, new customers in town, speculators and myriad of other deals. IF I'm a new person in town and I want to START a business or construction project that will require dealing with the city, AND if I know that ONE REAL ESTATE COMPANY has THREE employees in the government, I'd be INCLINED TO DEAL with that real estate company THINKING that it WILL HELP ME in my relations with the city. This would be GROSSLY UNFAIR to the other realtors. ALL three may be PURE as the driven SNOW, and the most ETHICAL people you know, BUT there WILL BE, at least, the APPEARANCE OF IMPROPRIETY. AND, with the appearance of impropriety, MOST people will think the worst.

ALSO, Dave Estey, a Place 4 candidate, and his wife own City Hall. The City of Wimberley pays them rent. SHOULD Mr. Estey be elected, the CONFLICT OF INTEREST and potential for IMPROPRIETY are obvious. WHAT HAPPENS when the LANDLORD raises the rent? WILL he vote with he council to pay the increase? Can he sit in BUDGET deliberations where items such as rent are discussed? WHICH SIDE would he be on in any Landlord-Tenant disputes? TO AVOID ALL of the above, VOTE FOR Terrie Bursiel, Place 4, Bob Flocke,Place 2 and Tom Halley for MAYOR in early voting which begins on Monday, May 1st and ELECTION DAY is May 13.

THIS INFORMATION NEEDS TO BE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF ALL ELIGIBLE VOTERS. PLEASE phone 5 of your friends (not strangers) and ask them to vote and also ask them to PHONE 5 of their friends etc. By only phoning friends, WE WILL NOT irritate strangers - FRIENDS SHOULD UNDERSTAND.

REMEMBER, IF the above situation WAS REVERSED, I HAVE NO DOUBT we would be HEARING about it!! PEOPLE ON THE LEFT just DO NOT THINK anything is WRONG with the above AND THINK that WE SHOULD EXCEPT THIS WITHOUT QUESTIONING IT. I QUESTION IT GREATLY and HOPE YOU WILL TOO!!!

THE QUESTION OF TWO CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS AND THE MAYOR WORKING FOR THE SAME REAL ESTATE COMPANY.

Dave Estey, Susan Thurber and Carolyn Nichols, current candidates for city council and for mayor, all are Realtors for the Wimberley Land Company (WLC). If elected, this would mean that HALF of all the seats on the Council would represent only one occupation, and worse yet, only one business. This would NOT provide the diversity that the Council should have. By contrast the candidates opposing them have very diverse backgrounds and interests.
The occupation/business problem is compounded because the City, and therefore the Council, routinely deals in matters affecting real estate. Should two, let alone all three be elected, Wimberley Land Company would have the inside track on real estate deals, knowledge of plannned development, new customers in town, speculators and myriad other deals.
Even with the reputation of being totally honest and ethical, WLC would be the obvious Broker to use by anyone wanting to start or sell a business, a construction project or any other activity involving real estate in the city. This would give WLC a very unfair advantage over other Realtors. Additionally, avoiding the appearance of impropriety would be a constant problem.
There is one way to make sure these problems don't arise...VOTE for Tom Haley, Bob Flocke and Terrie Bursiel in the May 13 city election.

ED. This is a better version of the above Candidate Ethics. CW

MORE "KLEPLER KRONICLES" PLUS THE "THREE BLIND MICE"

This from a different City Hall source:

"Der Fuhrer" OR "King of Wimberley", take your pick, has been at City Hall every day of late. According to this source, he's grouchy and grumbles around causing trouble and demanding this and that. MAYBE HE IS WORRIED!!

One day recently he walked up to the desk of one of OUR employees --always making sure that there is NO ONE else around to witness these exchanges--took a look at her desk calendar and saw that she had an appointment with Dr. White (local dentist and contributor to the HALEY campaign).

"Why do you have an appointment with this guy?" asked Boss Klepfer.

"He's my dentist," came the reply.

"WELL, you could do better than that," said his "ROYAL HIGHNESS". "I'll never give that man any of my business again."

Classic Boss Klepfer performance and indicative of WHY the town is split! IF you're NOT for him, YOU'LL FEEL HIS WRATH. He can carry a grudge for a long time, and he will always try to get even. I'm pretty sure that he doesn't know HOW TO DEAL with OUR CITY EMPLOYEES who won't knuckle under to his INTIMIDATION tactics.

I have heard from a person that actually HAS SEEN THIS, and so have others.

EACH MORNING, EACH of the dark side candidates VISITS DER FUHRER'S chambers on the Square to RECEIVE THEIR MARCHING ORDERS for the day. They stream in SEPARATELY, and none stays for more than 10 minutes or so. THAN MERILEE comes in for the BIG STRATEGY SESSIONS, followed by CURT BUSK. His ROYAL HIGHNESS meets with all of "his minions" each day.

"THREE BLIND MICE"

The three dark side candidates are walking Wimberley's neighborhoods together. LIKE a "finely drilled machine", THEY PARADE THE NEIGHBORHOODS. Carolyn dresses up, even wears earrings, Susan is RIGHT on her tail afraid that if Carolyn gets too far away Susan may have to think of something to say on her own, and Dave BRINGS UP THE REAR like "a loyal coachman" following HIS LADIES!!

Dave has been a major disappointment. He touted himself as an "independent candidate", BUT he has sure LATCHED onto Carolyn's coattails and attends his daily strategy session with Boss Klepfer.

As THEY walk the neighborhoods, tag-teaming residents, ONE CAN ONLY CONCLUDE that THEY LOOK LIKE THE "THREE BLIND MICE".

WIMBERLEY AT THE CROSSROADS

Dear Editor,

Please consider this little tome my mea-culpa. After serveral years of warding off other's efforts in incorporating Wimberley - I stumbled badly.

It is surprising how a little Heineken and brie mixed with "blue sky" PROMISES can make one take leave of his senses.

I fell hook, line and sinker for the proposed incorporation with little reservation. After all, even Wimberley's stalwart matriarch DOROTHY KERBOW was won over. It must have the brie cheese!

Eventually, the passage of incorporation was not of the nature as promised by its promoters. It was NOT a caterpillar that was to develop into a beautiful Monarch butterfly. This caterpillar morphed into a Burmese boa-constrictor. This carnivorous transplant NOW threatens to devour the indigenous life in Wimberley. I make no apology for any effort expended to SLAY THE SERPENT!!

Metaphors aside, the present election is of the UTMOST IMPORTANCE. We need political balance in this city government, not a "corps elite" which feels entitled to absolute power over the affairs of Wimberley as their birthright. Individual property rights BE DAMMED! City government shall reign supreme.

There is so much that goes on under the radar of the average citizen, especially those new arrivals, UNLESS they initiate new construction or plan uses for acquired properties. Then THE PAIN BEGINS!!

There exists an adversarial ATTITUDE that pervades city hall. And those who access the current "approval system" will encounter the rigors of frustration and excessive financial expenditures.

Counter to their claims, the current regime IS NOT preserving the Wimberley that I and others once felt and loved prior to the installation of the present city government.

The continuation of this "tag team" administration with new candidacies made up of three real estate agents associated with a local firm; and which, one candidate is the owner and landlord of city hall. THIS CAN'T BE GOOD!!

I am not concerned with ignorant "locals" destroying the Wimberley environment. Since many are descendants of PIONEER FAMILIES who have preserved Wimberley since the 1850's. I'm more concened with the present city government and it's "appointed" successors destroying the "WIMBERLEY SPIRIT".

NOW GO VOTE!!!

The FUTURE of the REAL Wimberley is at stake!!
